Tim Smith, Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries

Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries faced a challenge common to operators of continuing care retirement communities: How to offer emergency response services for independent living residents while maximizing their autonomy and dignity.

Pennsylvania-based ALSM implemented LogicMark’s FreedomAlert emergency response system.

FreedomAlert allows a user not only to contact but speak with an emergency dispatcher, says ALSM Network Administrator Tim Smith.

The product can dial up to four personal contacts before 911, allowing residents to avoid the potentially unnecessary drama and costs of an ambulance or police response.

From the cost angle, the lack of monthly fees was “the main selling point,” Smith says. ALSM also was able to buy a small number of units to pilot the product, so Smith says leaders were confident in a larger deployment.

Cost-effective PERS

LogicMark’s FreedomAlert allows two-way communication with friends, family or 911, with no monthly fees. The discreet system requires only a power outlet and active landline.
