Hospitals should put pressure-reducing mattresses in their emergency departments, according to a study appearing in the Annals of Emergency Medicine. The move would reduce pressure ulcer development and save facilities money, investigators assert. More than 6.2 million elderly residents at risk of developing pressure ulcers are admitted through emergency departments each year, the study notes.
