Healthcare workers should get flu shot, CDC recommends
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has updated immunization recommendations for the flu.
Among the committee's recommendations: Healthcare administrators should implement policies to encourage vaccination among healthcare professionals. Each year, a far greater percentage of residents than workers is vaccinated, even though workers are more likely to be near someone infected with the flu, either at the facility or away from it.The advisory panel continues to recommend annual vaccination for anyone at risk for medical complications from the flu and those who live with or care for them.
More than 100 million doses of flu vaccine are expected to be available to the U.S. for the 2007-08 season. The CDC committee encourages healthcare providers to develop plans for administering vaccine if the supply is delayed or reduced.
