The Green House movement has hit Michigan.

Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, of Southfield, MI, a nonprofit system with 17 senior living communities, said that it plans to open two Green Houses on Monday. They are the first in the state and among the first in the nation to open.

Started in Tupelo, MS, the Green House Project offers a new way of delivering eldercare. The resident-centered model emphasizes small buildings versus larger institutional facilities and encourages residents to feel at home in their surroundings, whether that be making a snack in the kitchen or enjoying the outdoors. Dr. William H. Thomas, also known for the Eden Alternative, founded the movement.
