Republican members of Congress are expected to intensify their criticism of an Obama administration brochure that is being sent to seniors to help explain the new healthcare reform law. The brochure, which touts provisions of the Democrat-powered law, is being sent to 40 million Medicare beneficiaries.

Republican Senate leaders called it a waste and inappropriate use of taxpayer money in a letter sent to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius. In the letter, the lawmakers asked for information about the White House’s involvement in the brochure, as well as its cost. Also, on Wednesday, House Republican leaders asked the Government Accountability Office to investigate whether the publication broke a law barring the government from issuing propaganda. The health reform law passed without a single Republican voting for it.

The administration claims that the brochure enables seniors to learn many key details of the complex bill, including “improvements” it brings.
