Local authorities were set to start a
formal investigation of an unregistered nursing home in Japan that
was the site of a fatal fire late last week.. The Thursday night fire
wound up killing 10 residents after three more perished Saturday.
The
building did not have sprinklers, and its owners apparently had not
received appropriate permits to expand it recently, according to
various news reports.
The fire reportedly burned down three
buildings at the facility, which was nonetheless too small to fall
under a sprinkler mandate, according to officials quoted in a
published report. The cause of the fire was still unknown at press
time but the prefectural government was scheduled to begin
investigating the facility and its services today..
The Seiyo Home Tamayura is in
Shibukawa in Gunma Prefecture.
