A new computerized test is more than 82% accurate in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease, researchers have found.

Study results, published in December’s Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, reflect analysis of 97 people’s speech samples. An automated detection algorithm takes into account diversity of language impairments by people with the disease, such as semantic impairment. Toronto Rehabilitation Institute’s Frank Rudzicz, Ph.D, led the study.

The automated assessment also can provide an objective diagnostic rating for dementia.
