An increasing number of people will need nursing home
care after suffering disabilities caused by congestive heart failure, according
to a new study.
The study, from the University of Michigan Health System
and the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, found that people with CHF experienced
a much higher rate of disability than those without the condition. More and
more people have been surviving heart attacks in recent decades.
The study is based on data collected in 2000 by the
University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research. It sampled the
responses of 10,626 people aged 65 and over.
