Nursing home providers are opposing a new federal regulatory proposal that would penalize healthcare facilities financially for revisits by facility inspectors.

The so-called “revisit user fee” regulation would charge skilled nursing facilities and nursing facilities a flat fee of $2,072 for each onsite inspection revisit and $168 for each offsite revisit, according to the American Health Care Association. Certain types of revisits, however, are exempt from the fee.

The revisit fees would generate about $37.3 million annually and would cover the Medicare Survey and Certification Program’s cost to conduct revisit surveys, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The regulation is entitled Establishment of Revisit User Fee Program for Medicare Survey and Certification Activities (CMS-2268-P).
