Nursing home operators can now access a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services webpage dedicated to the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement initiative.

The official QAPI regulations are still in process, but providers should “feel free” to get a jump on implementation, CMS officials said in March. The new webpage provides materials to help providers start this process.

Resources include a video, “Nursing home QAPI – What’s in it for you?” The video explains what residents and providers stand to gain from embracing QAPI. The page also includes a “QAPI at a glance” document that includes a provider self-assessment, a goal-setting worksheet and other implementation tools.

Seventy-one percent of 4,200 randomly selected nursing homes completed the Quality Improvement Questionnaire distributed last summer, CMS announced, as part of the webpage rollout Friday. The results of this questionnaire are being analyzed and will be posted to the QAPI webpage “in the near future,” according to CMS. The survey will be used to create baseline quality measures for nursing homes.

CMS plans to expand the webpage by adding information for family members and consumers, empowering them to engage with nursing home quality improvement projects.
