Cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s and diabetes rank as the most commonly diagnosed diseases among adult day center participants, according to a new long-term care study.

The first release of results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Study of Long-Term Care Providers shows cardiovascular diseases were diagnosed in 44% of adult day center participants in 2014, making it the most commonly diagnosed out of the six conditions tracked.

Alzheimer’s and other dementias and diabetes were the second most diagnosed, tied at 30%. Intellectual or developmental disabilities and depression were both diagnosed in 25% of participants. Severe mental illness was the sixth most commonly diagnosed at 10%.

The National Study of Long-Term Care Providers is conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics. Additional reports featuring the results of the study will be released in the coming months, NCHS said.
