Fewer than a quarter (23%) of all nursing homes have a plan for dealing with a massive flu outbreak, according to a new study. About 25% had a pandemic response as part of a broader overall disaster plan.

A set of "simple" and "workable" non-pharmacological interventions that staff members could easily implement may be within nursing home operators' grasp for battling a pandemic flu outbreak, researchers say.

Centre Partners, a private equity firm with offices on the East and West coasts, says that it has completed its purchase of Covenant Care, which runs 43 skilled-nursing facilities and residential-care facilities in seven states. Terms of the previously announced purchase were not disclosed.

The amount of financing placed in seniors housing dropped by a precipitous 60% in the first quarter of 2008, according to data released this month from the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industry. That could lead to an easing up on new development.
