The CEO of American Senior Communities has been fired in the wake of an FBI and IRS investigation targeting the company’s headquarters and his home.

James Burkhart, who also serves as the chairman of the board of directors of the Indiana Health Care Association, was fired on Friday. His firing was effective immediately, ASC said in a press release.

In that same release, the company said an internal review found the FBI investigation “does not touch upon the operation of any nursing home serviced by ASC,” the Indianapolis Star reported. Authorities have yet to comment on the reason for the investigation.

ASC, which operates nearly 100 skilled nursing, hospice and assisted living facilities in Indiana and Kentucky, said it is beginning the search for an interim and permanent CEO who will “embrace ASC’s core values.”
