A long-term care reference tool released Tuesday takes
into account new market forces that are shaping the future of long-term care.
"The NIC Compendium Project: A Guide to Long-Term
Care Projection and Simulation Models" is a combination report card and
road map. Specifically, it examines current research models on long-term care
financing and points out limitations. Officials
with the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry
commissioned the report, which is expected to help policymakers determine the best combination of public and private sector funding needed to pay for long-term care.
While the report's ultimate strength may be as a planning
tool, savvy operators are already absorbing the guide's message: Change is
underway in large part because of aging baby boomers. Study authors said they
see a remarkably different eldercare market in the decades ahead. But there is
hardly consensus at this point on how such care will look, or be paid for.
A special session of McKnight's Online Expo next week
will take another in-depth look at market conditions today - and how to plan
for the future. NIC's Michael Hargrave will lead "Market trends: Know thy
competition" at 2 p.m. (Eastern Time) on March 26.
The free online expo will include four other live
Web-based sessions that attendees can enjoy from their computer screen.
