New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is expanding his practice of installing hidden cameras in nursing homes to include facilities in western New York, according to local news outlets.

Cuomo already has used hidden-camera footage taken at nursing homes in Rochester to prosecute staff members for abuse and neglect. Facilities in Syracuse, Long Island and New York City also currently have hidden cameras as part of the Attorney General’s nursing home crack down.

Cuomo declined to say how many facilities in Buffalo, NY, would be receiving hidden cameras, according to news reports. But he did say he thought the cameras will be a deterrent against nursing home abuse. “Assume there’s a camera in the room,” he said. “There may be a camera in the room. By the way, you shouldn’t be doing anything in the room that you don’t want to be on the camera anyway.”
